Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo is going to miss the rest of the season and possibly UEFA Euro 2020 as he has ruptured anterior cruciate ligament on Sunday. He will undergo surgery on Monday, confirms The Giallorossi. The Euro 2020 championship that runs from June 12 to July 12 can be missed by the player as he is expected to be out of action for 6 months according to Football Italia.
Thirty-Five minutes into Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus on Sunday, when counter-attacking through the middle, Nicolo Zaniolo was attempted to be stopped by Adrien Rabiot and Matthijs de Ligt, the player suffered from the injury and was stretchered off. Azzurri boss Roberto Mancini was watching the game from the stands at the Stadio Olimpico when the player was withdrawn as the injury from the counter-attack wouldn’t let the player perform well because of obvious pain. De Ligt earned a booking as he brought Zaniolo down with a body check.
Doctors revealed the extent of his injury in the hospital where Zaniolo was immediately taken. The player hopes for the best and believes he will come back stronger from the injury.
After the Serie A match, a tweet from Roma confirmed that Zaniolo would require surgery. The statement reads, “Following the injury suffered during tonight’s game, Nicolo Zaniolo underwent medical assessments that confirmed the rupture of the ACL in his right knee, along with some damage to the meniscus”. This injury at the end of the season can be a major loss for Roma.
